Transgender and Gender-Affirming Therapy | Rose Park Psychology
Finding a psychologist you can trust with something as personal as your gender takes courage, and you deserve a space where you can simply be yourself. Rose Park Psychology offers affirming, client-led gender-affirming therapy for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people at every stage of their journey. We understand that journeys are travelled better together.
We have supported the Adelaide community since 2000. Your experience of your own gender is not a symptom to be fixed. It is something to be understood, respected, and supported, and that is the spirit in which we work.
What Is Gender-Affirming Therapy?
Gender-affirming therapy is psychological support grounded in respect for your gender identity. Rather than questioning or gatekeeping who you are, it offers a confidential space to explore your experience, navigate change, and work through any concerns at your own pace.
It can be helpful whether you are beginning to question your gender, actively navigating transition, or seeking support for the everyday stresses and mental health concerns that can sit alongside being trans or gender diverse. There is no requirement to have anything figured out before you begin.
How We Can Support You
Depending on what you need, support can include:
- Gender exploration and identity. A confidential space to explore your gender identity, expression, and roles, without pressure or a fixed agenda.
- Support through transition. Help navigating the social and emotional aspects of transition, and coping with any dysphoria-related distress, at a pace that suits you.
- Mental health and co-occurring concerns. Support for depression, anxiety, or trauma, which are often connected to minority stress rather than to being trans or gender diverse.
- Sexuality, body image, and intimacy. Caitlin holds a specialist qualification in psychosexual therapy and can support concerns across gender, sexuality, body image, and sexual wellbeing.
- Gender diversity and neurodivergence. Affirming support for the overlap many people experience between being gender diverse and neurodivergent.
- The people around you. Support for parents, caregivers, and loved ones who want to understand and affirm you as you navigate change.
Our Approach
Gender-affirming therapy at Rose Park Psychology is provided by Caitlin Waldie a Registered Psychologist who works via secure telehealth across Australia. Caitlin offers inclusive, trauma-informed therapy with a warm, collaborative, person-centred approach, working at a pace that feels right for you and using the language that feels most accurate to you.
She draws on evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and attachment-based work, all adapted to be inclusive and affirming. Caitlin also holds a Master of Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) with a specialisation in psychosexual therapy, which she brings to work around gender, sexuality, body image, and intimacy.
Caitlin practises from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective and has a particular interest in the overlap between gender diversity and neurodivergence. Our work follows a client-led model that honours your self-determination: your experience of your own gender is the starting point, not something to be questioned, and we are happy to work alongside your GP or medical team.
Our approach is informed by current standards in gender-affirming care, such as those of the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH). Your privacy matters, and we use your correct name and pronouns throughout.
Important Information
Referrals, Medicare, and NDIS. You do not need a referral to book. Eligible clients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their GP can claim Medicare rebates for individual sessions, and Caitlin also works with self and plan-managed NDIS participants and private clients. We are happy to talk through rebates and any out-of-pocket costs when you book.
Therapy, not gatekeeping. We provide therapy and support, not psychological assessments designed to approve or deny access to medical care. You do not need to prove your gender to receive support from us, and we can work alongside the medical team managing any gender-affirming treatment.
Telehealth. Sessions run for around 50 minutes via a secure, confidential video platform, or by phone, with after-hours appointments available. Telehealth removes barriers for people in regional and rural areas, or anyone who prefers the comfort and safety of their own home.
Who This Is For
This support is for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, including those who are questioning or exploring their gender. Caitlin works with adolescents and adults, and with children where telehealth is appropriate. It is also for parents, caregivers, and loved ones who want support to understand and affirm someone they care about. Our care encompasses the full spectrum of gender identity and expression, not only binary trans identities. No issue is too big or too small.
What to Expect
We have designed the process to be straightforward and low-pressure. When you contact us, our team takes time to understand what you are looking for and to arrange your first appointment. The first session is about getting to know each other, and there is no rush. From there, you and your psychologist shape a plan together and adjust it as your needs change.

That uncertainty is completely valid, and it is often exactly why people come to see us. You do not need a clear sense of your identity before booking. Exploration is part of the work.
Will I need a psychological assessment to access hormones or surgery?
We provide therapy and support, not assessments designed to approve or deny access to medical care. We are happy to work alongside the medical team managing any gender-affirming treatment.
Do you work with non-binary and gender non-conforming clients?
Yes. Our care encompasses all gender identities and expressions, not only binary trans identities. We work with the full spectrum of gender diversity.
