Psychological Assessment

Our assessments can be broadly classified in to Educational assessment  and ADHD assessment.

Educational Assessments

Educational assessments are administered to determine a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as language and written abilities. Understanding a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses can identify what support they need to function best at school, as well as in their social and family environments. Sometimes additional assessment tools are required which we can discuss as part of the overall assessment process.

We understand that parents have a natural desire for their child to be happy and flourish, so we will work together to tailor an effective strategy moving forward based on practical recommendations. After all, a diagnosis is only helpful if it provides a pathway towards a solution.

The assessments will:

  • Identify the unique learning profile of children who are having difficulties at school
  • Identification of a learning difficulty
  • Provide recommendations on specific interventions that will improve the child’s functioning in the classroom
  • Provide advice on how the child’s learning can be supported at school and home
  • Identify gifted children, so that appropriate educational planning and extension can be undertaken

ADHD assessment in adults, children and teenagers

Several of our psychologists can using psychological testing and their professional judgement advise on how to assess for ADHD if symptoms are being shown by your child or teenager. We can work with your GP who can assess and prescribe medication for individuals with ADHD.  It is useful for parents of both medicated and unmedicated children to learn coping and management strategies. We can  provide coping strategies for the child and help for parents by providing ADHD coaching. The goal of maximizing happiness and achievement. It is common for ADHD to be accompanied by depressive and anxiety disorders, and there may be also the diagnosis of autism. which are frequently addressed by psychologists.  All of our child psychologists work with children and teenagers with ADHD and their co-morbid conditions.
