Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling

Relationship counselling (couples therapy or marriage counselling) is widely acknowledged as an effective approach for resolving issues within couples.

Relationship Counselling Adelaide

During relationship counselling, our psychologists will take the time to listen to both people and to learn how they feel about each other. It is also important for each person to understand how they feel about themselves and their own needs. Therefore expectations that are formed about partners and they way they make us feel are often influenced by the family of origin and the relationship style of the parents.

Rose Park Psychology aims to provide a safe environment for you to undertake relationship counselling and look at the patterns of interaction that you have embraced as a couple. We adopt methods that are guided by the Gottman Method for Couples and the Emotion-Focused- therapy approach to help you get through the challenges in your relationship. We aim to improve communication between the couple, exploring ways to connect with each other, strengthening cohesion and commitment, building a shared vision for the future, learning to fulfill each other’s needs better, and more. Our psychologists particularly help you learn how to resolve conflicts by yourselves and get along as a family. Located in Rose Park, we service all suburbs in and around Adelaide.

About Relationship Counselling

Emotion focused therapy has six treatment principles that guide therapists in carrying out this therapy: achieving empathic attunement, fostering an empathic, caring therapeutic bond, facilitating task collaboration, helping the client process experience appropriately to the task, supporting completion of key client tasks, and fostering client development and empowerment.

Encouraging Effective Communication
Many problems between couples are sorted through effective communication, which essentially should be two-way. Psychologists help couples realise the importance of effective two-way communication and pave the way for a smooth resolution of disagreements.

Assisting in Conflict Resolution
Therapy sessions with relationship counsellors are focused on resolving the issues that have been causing the couple to drift apart.

Helping Set Boundaries
It is important to maintain healthy boundaries, whatever the relationship. Through relationship counselling, couples identify the kinds of boundaries they need to maintain.

Rekindling the Passion
Dwindling intimacy between a couple could also be the cause of several problems. Relationship counselling includes all aspects of married life, and fading passions are also addressed.

Rebuilding Trust
The basis for any relationship is trust. However, issues may arise when there is a breach of trust or a suspicion that it has been breached. This is therefore fortified by insecurities and anxiety that can be explored in relationship counselling.
