Andrea Braica

Andrea is a warm and empathic APHRA registered Provisional Psychologist with a passion for working with children, adolescents and young people to achieve their therapeutic goals through evidence-based therapies. Andrea focuses on building trustworthy connections with children and adolescents by using a down to earth, creative and fun approach to therapy. She aims to assist clients to gain a deeper understanding of their wide-ranging emotions and equip them with skills to better manage emotions and adapt their behaviour to lead fulfilling lives despite challenges. Andrea loves to bring a sense of humour to the collaborative approach between her and her clients, while working towards the best therapeutic outcomes according to each individual’s needs.

Andrea has developed a passion and interest in supporting individuals with disabilities and working with children from a young age. She completed her work experience at St Patrick Special Needs school where she first discovered her love for working with children who were diagnosed with a range of varying disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Downs Syndrome and others. Furthermore, her passion for working with families and young children continued to grow throughout her time volunteering with Anglicare supporting mothers with mental health illness’ build a strong connection and bond with their children.

In her previous role, Andrea worked as a Behaviour Support Practitioner supporting individuals of all ages and disabilities within the NDIS framework. She completed Functional Behaviour Assessment to identify the function of client’s behaviours of concern. Through identifying the function of client’s behaviour, she was able to create individualised plans to teach alternative methods of achieving the same function and develop coping strategies to tolerate non-preferred events.

Andrea endeavours to create a safe, caring and empathic environment for all her clients and aims to support clients to achieve their personal goals while recognising their unique strengths. She aims to build a positive therapeutic relationship with all her clients and her approachable and friendly nature allows her to relate and communicate with a wide range of diverse clients. Additionally, Andrea believes that it is important to work from a multidisciplinary team which includes connecting with the clients additional services such as Occupational Therapist, Teachers and Speech Pathologist to work collaboratively.

Andrea utilises a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Play Therapy and Psychoeducation.

In her spare time, she loves spending time at the beach with her friends and family, as well as, spending time cuddling her cute dog Frankie. Andrea also has a passion for travelling the world and exploring different cultures. She believes in the importance of self-care and practices mindfulness such as meditation and gratitude journaling in order to observe her feelings and thoughts without judgement and enhance her overall well-being.
