Therapy for Teenagers

Adolesence is a period of physical, mental, emotional and behavioural change that can often be difficult for individuals and those around them. Issues can appear daunting and impassable without guidance and counselling, and can result in greater problems in later life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is used to treat a range of mental health problems in teenagers. Individual programs are designed based on the following principles.

  • Providing the teenager with an understanding of their particular difficulties through psychoeducation.
  • Providing the teenager with coping strategies.
  • Assisting the teenager to address unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that are contributing to his or her particular difficulties.
  • Parental involvement at the teenager's discretion
