Nicole Best

Nicole works with adults, young adults, adolescents and children to assist them to achieve their optimum well-being through a holistic “healthy mind-healthy body-healthy environment” approach.   She works with individuals, couples and families using a number of different approaches through a systemic lens, including cognitive-behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and the use of hypnotherapy when appropriate.  She can assist with general everyday life stresses, self-esteem, grief and loss (e.g. through bereavement or relationship breakup), and with symptoms of depression and anxiety, including clinically diagnosed.  She also works with issues such as, illness and disability, chronic pain, past abuse, trauma, eating and weight difficulties, self-harm, women’s health, palliative care, and life transitions and adjustments.  She provides specialised clinical psychology services under Medicare.  Nicole does not work with legal matters.

Nicole can assist with symptoms of anxiety and depression, including clinically diagnosed major depression, bipolar disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder.  Symptoms of anxiety and depression can be present for some time in our life or may appear at times of life transitions, events and stressors.  Often these symptoms may also appear when struggling with other issues and complexities such as pain, illness, disability, eating and weight difficulties, past abuse, trauma, and relationship difficulties.  Nicole through a holistic approach, using a number of strategies including cognitive-behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and hypnotherapy can assist you to work through and better manage such difficulties. 

Nicole can work with children and adolescents to assist them to overcome and/or manage fears and anxieties, feelings of sadness and depression, self-harm, self-esteem and self-confidence, and transitions through developmental stages and life events; including loss, change of schools, friendship difficulties, exam and performance preparation, and parental separation.  Nicole also works with young adults with a particular interest in young women’s issues and health. 

She also does relationship counselling and family therapy. Individual difficulties can impact on our relationships, family and friends, and in turn relationship and family difficulties can impact on the individual.  With a neutral (except when ethically and legally inappropriate e.g. child abuse requiring mandatory notification) and empathetic style Nicole is willing when required to work with couples and families to assist them with presenting difficulties and concerns.
